This boat will very much be a project boat, and I can hardly wait to get started on it.

I wonder if I can get it to go 80mph without crazy mods - just by focusing on efficiency.

Can't wait to start diving into it at the end of this season, it'll be pretty cool when it's all said and done.
It will be interesting to see what you come up with. I did not try trim tabs. I did try several prop combos and in salt water I got a true GPS best with the 26P Bravo1 4 blade of 76mph (80+ on Speedo) with just me in the bat and half a tank of gas.

Excellent. So your motor is all stock? With a full tank and 4 people we saw 75mph on the stock speedo on the test drive, so I definitely think it's doable, considering the motor wasn't even broken in.

What is the max rpm for the 502MPI?

I just talked to the guy with the Orange SCS on Ebay, the boat is a total toilet and he only will take 20k for it . trim pump doesnt work, tab pump doesnt work, the whole top side of the boat is fully oxidised and rough.

That stinks..
Might still be a good buy at 20 .. as long as motor and drive are good

Someone needs to buy it and bring it back to life. There are only like 14 of those in the world!

As for max rpms, We were seeing 5050rpm at WOT with 4 people and a full tank which means to me I am underpropped.

This is what I'm thinking:
1) Performance exhaust manifolds or headers if the price is right.
2) IMCO Extreme shorty drive.
3) Better pitched prop.

I have heard that this setup should pick up about 5-6mph, which would probably put me pretty close to 80mph. May need heads/cams/programming to get over that mark.

it might be a good buy for 15k or less. I bet it would be easy dumping 10-15k into that boat easily.
