Default Stringer replacement cost

How much should I expect to spend on having the stringers replaced on a '78 30 ft (not doing the work myself)? From the captains seats back.

9 Times Out Of 10 You Are Gonna Need To Replace The Transom. Ouch.

if the stringers and transom are wasted, it will cost what the boat is worth if you have someone else do it... your much better off to get the itchy scratchys and do it yourself. it's a lot of work, but nothing is incredibly difficult you should be able to do it yourself for under well under 1500 in materials

Default One Benefit...

I agree! I had the same problem with my Cougar Cat: Every wood in the hull was rotten and we had to put everything out. Also 80% of the transom and the balsa core of the tunnel - rotten.

And here is the benefit:
If you do it by yourself or let do it a very good company, the hull will be stiffened maybe 30%, because Wellcraft (and I think also many other companies) didn't work very good in these years (I know this because I've redone a 1981 and 1984 Wellcraft). The cross stringers were sometimes to short to reach the forward stringers and also the bonding together was very often bad.

So you have the chance to do it better!

Try going to this site http://www.preforms.com/ they produce stringers made out of composite material that are already covered with extra material left for "gluing" the stringer(s) in place. Do not know the cost the benifit would be a rwal time saver.
