Scarab 22 owners!!! Please help!!!

Hows it going everyone! Just bought a 95' scarab 22 w/ 454 bbc (bone stock) and bravo 1 drive. Just seeing what props you are running and at what speeds and rpm range.

I am currently running a 23p 3 blade mirage and im only getting to 60mph around 4700-4800 rpm on speedo (no gps). The boat planes decent, and i am happy with it, but i here people getting to 65-68 gps and 70+ on the speedo. I know i should be around 4600 rpm. I have been doing some research and it looks like a 25p 3 blade mirage plus is a good one to use.

I am looking for more top end and wanting to get in the 65 gps range. In all reality, i just dont want a scarab 22 with a 350 blowing by me!!!!! thanks for the help everyone

I owned a 1997 22' with a 300 hp 7.4 carb. I tried a bunch of different props, even called wellcraft when they were in business, best prop was the one that came on it, 3 blade mirage plus 25p at 4600 rpm, solid 62mph with 30 gallons and two people. Would run 64 at the end of the day when the fuel was light. All the speeds above were gps. My speedo (wow meter) would show 70. I could get a little more trim & speed with the trailer tilt button. Watch a gps to find the perfect trim, not the speedo! Keep everthing tuned up and you shouldn't have a problem beating a 350 small block or 330mpi 7.4 stock. My honest 62 would out run bunch of supposely 70 mph bass boats.

thanks for the input. I have been doing research like crazy, and everything i find, that does well with this scarab 22, is the mirage plus 25p 3 blade. so i think im going to give it a shot.

Going out tomorrow with a gps and going to call bronson hill in santa ana ca to get some math work in!

any more people with a 22 scarab and any prop luck?

Don't worry about a stock carbed 350..... I have the 1995 Scarab 22 with a 350 and I won't be blowing by you.... Best GPS speed so far is 57mph... and thats with perfect conditions, just me (no passengers) hardly any gear with little more than fumes in the tank....

With the load I quoted above, I would guess about 5-6 seconds to plane. NOW, with three passengers added to the back seat and an ice chest pushed as far forward as possible, that did get embarrassing leaning over the windshield to get on plane! There is a good thread on here about someone asking if tabs would be a good add for this boat, wish I had added them only for the few times five peeps were in the boat or slow speeds.

The 600 hp works out to the touted 15hp needed to gain 1mph. 300hp more than the 300hp stock I was running divided by 15 equal 20 mph increase added to my 62 mph equals your 82mph!

Ok so took the boat out yesterday and here is what I got:

23p mirage: 57mph gps @ 4600-4650 rpm with a 5 second plane.

23p mirage plus: 58 mph gps @ 4800 rpm with a 5.5 second plane

This was with 2 180lb guys and bt quarter and half tank of fuel.

I also have a 21p mirage plus that came with the boat but I fiqure it will just give me more holshot. Might as well try it out next time.

Still thinking of getting a 25p mirage plus but can't decide! 4 blade maybe?

I would stick with the 3 blade and the plus. The mirage "plus" is what will carry the bow higher and get it walking on the rear pad.
