The reason Larry doesn't like the old boats is he wants to sell new boats then he makes money. I hear about it every week why do people want to fix the old boats he's not sentimental about them like we are. But every time he walks in the shop and see's the 46 and the 38 I have hear you can tell he still loves them.

Happy Thanksgiving gents, Dan thank you for responding for I do not think there is anyone that knows more regarding Larry and his boats. The 46 is awesome looking. I have not seen the 38 which one is it? I have owned 5 of his boats including the #5 and the quality shows how he really feels about the Scarab name and his old boats. I have not talked to Larry since I put he and Chad together on the 43 step bottom many years ago. I still have the photos of that boat sitting un-rigged. What a cool piece. It is clear we still love the old boats for restoring is definitely a labor of love. There is no way to break even and in Dan's case probably an easier way to make money that restoring old boats. hblair Arnesons are cool but have their downsides.

Check with Jim (502SS) and ask what a surface drive does for our straight bottom boats. (his were Kaamas, but essentially the same). They do have their idiosyncrasies, but the make way more speed than a TRS.

Some pics for the Arneson incentive. Maybe you can find the former owner and get his opinion on it. I believe it ended up being sold without the drives. Don't know if the new owner reinstalled Arnesons.

That's a fine piece of equipment. What did it run and what power did it have when it was complete? This is a great wealth of info for future similar build of this type of hull.

Glassdave has my materials ready. I've just got to pick them up. If y'all know anybody coming from Toledo through Alabama, let me know. It's a long ride up there and back, and not too keen on shipping.
Meanwhile, my guy has my main tank finished up. The original tank had several gallons of dirt/dried up gas in it, as well as two sets of fuel pickups laying in the bottom of it. Wade at DWS machine set me up with a nice new tank. He built it just like the old one, baffles and all...

Don't know any of the details. Originally for sale without power, then for sale without drives either iirc. Pretty sure the new owner made a few posts, but not much info that I saw posted.
