Have you ever thought about fiberglassing the fairing in place at all?

Actually never crossed my mind until you said something. I think I’m gonna just leave it the factory type look. Interesting idea though.

Yea I was contemplating what I wanted to do with mine when the time comes. Might be a little more sleek looking, but will also have another spot for stress cracks down the road where as if it’s just screwed down and some sealant in around the edges there is some flex there.

Quick question. Do you know if the race hatches from an 80s 30’ are the same as the 38’? Or close enough?

I’m out of town right now but when I get home I can check the size of the hatches on my 30 compared to the 38. I know the 30 does not have any bars on it. I’m in the process of having a machinist make new hatch hinges for my 38. 3 of the 4 were broken.

I though you had those fancy long strap looking hinges made for when you converted your hatches to a single hatch?

Sorry I didn’t read your question right. I was talking cabin hatches. I’m almost positive engine hatches will not interchange between 30 and 38. I think the engine hatch opening on the 38 is a few inches longer and a few inches narrower than the 30.

No worries. In your opinion, if I were going to make the engine hatches into a single hatch like you’ve done, would it be easier/more cost effective to modify the hatches from a 30, or build/have someone build a correct set?

I’d probably start from scratch. I bet the crown of the hatches are different between the 30 and the 38.
