.

fill holes with 1/8 inch thick plywood as core and epoxy the core to the fiberglass backing

this is where I transition from epoxy resin to polyester resin. I use the wood core as the transition element

cover a layer of TotalBoat Polyester Structural Putty , non-waxed , over the core to make ready for black (polyester) gelcoat

sand down non-waxed polyester putty , lots of sandpaper wasted here because non-waxed polyester gums up the sandpaper

and begin sanding all areas that will receive fresh gelcoat

brush on black polyester gelcoat non-waxed to allow for multiple coats, gonna be a lot of sanding using blocks to keep the surface flat

on final coat of gelcoat, brush on PVA to allow polyester gelcoat to fully cure prior to sanding
