Default How many turbo scarabs were made?

I am looking at at 38 foot scarab that looks like it has factory installed turbos on it. This is how the boat is outfitted. Twin 454s with Twin turbo chargers hooked to speedmaster II outdrives. It is a flat deck version and has 2 auxillary saddle tanks installed next to the cockpit hull sides. How doI figure out it this is a kevlar hull? It doesn't say Kamma on the sides but there is a
"TURBO" emblem on the dash. The owner also showed me the mercruiser literature for the turbo/ speedmaster combo. How rare is this boat?

If its a 38' Flat deck theres
a good chance it was made in
Cali. at Team Scarab, Check
the Hull number on the transom
and if it is a team Scarab hull I might be able to get
you some history.

Sorry, Thats a Wellcraft built
Boat so There are no records
at Scarab.
The good thing is that the
Boat was built when there was
a Hi-Performance Group headed
By Gus Anastisi.
I will ask Warren if he remembers anything about the
Boat.

kevlar fabric is a gold color, and the epoxy resin makes it look about like 14K gold. Yup- its a Wellcraft built boat- WEL in the hull ID number. Larry Smith is TSC (Team Scarab). And Mike J is da' man for info.

You might want to call the folks at Mercruiser on the powertrain.

Good Luck

The owner says the serial numbers on the blocks are 5670721 and 5670723. I called mercury racing and they can't find any info related to these numbers. I also called Wellcraft and left a message asking them if they can locate any info on this boat according to the hull number. What are the chances of having them call me back? I need to know what is the original horespower rating for these motors to tell the insurance company. If I can't find any info on them, what do I tell the insurance company. I don't want to tell them these are 370 HP motors.

That boat again? I think I know the one you're talking about.
I'm not sure there were any 38' turbo boats, only 31' scarabs.
It may also have TRS uppers with a TRS X dimension. Check it out.
Check out the hull number carefully, something doesn't sound right.
My $0.02.

Default Turbo Scarab

I have a Mercruiser shop Manual that details an MCM 475 Turbo, serial # up to 5670797 so that would seem to cover the numbers on your blocks.

HP is quoted at 475 on a CR of 7:1 and Max RPM (at WOT) of 5200-5400.

Identifying features are "475" on rocker cover decal and "475" stamped in serial number plate on top of gearbox bellhousing.

I am only a newbie so can't see your photos but the book shows rear exit manifolds with the the turbos directly on top of each. Single Holley carb its just above normal position on small plenum that goes to inlet on both turbos.

If you want to mail photos to [email protected] I will check against service manual.

Regards,
