Default 28 Skater vs 30 Motion

I know the finish on a Skater is better than Motion anyday and also faster. But I've heard that a 30 Motion is better than a 28 Skater in rough water is this true?

I can't speak for the skater either. I have a 30' motion. With twin 300pro max motors best speed is over 110mph in fresh water. It is a wide boat 9'2'' with 44'' wide tunnel. I suspect the 28' is faster an the motion would have a slight edge in rough water

i was 3-5 lengths behind 3 28's...2 with 2.5's and 1 w x's, as we came out of the flats and into the bay headed SE, it was a solid 2-3 ft chop with occasional white caps and a stiff wind outta the SSE...i slipped by all 3 of them after about a 2-3 mile run. 1 of the 1's with the 2.5's had a rear seat cowl and when i pulled out of it he was about 8-10 lengths ahead of the other 2 and i was about 2 lengths ahead of him. in flat water its a different story. but in barnegat bay its rarely flat...i'll take the 30 all day. she only runs 106 and that spinning 15x32's to 6350 rpm's...plenty of room for improvement.

Bern What speed were you able to maintain in those conditions?

Barnegat Bay is usually like a washing machine, but every once in a while ya cath it right, catch a rhythm and let it all hang out

It is almost impossible to compare these two boats. One being faster than the other. It all depends on who is driving. A world champion throttleman running my 24 Skater could probably pull away from both boats

Apache21 I think you are correct. I look at the SS outboard class and there are no 28' skaters currently running, there are however several 30' Spectres in compation. I had started a thread a year ago. Where are all the 28' skater race boats that were so popular several years ago? tHE SKATER28' is shorter and much lighter then the 30 spectre or 30' Motion for that matter.
