Paul,
As you are finding out, getting these boats to run requires making many small changes. Anyone can make a boat run fast with tons of HP, but it is much more challenging with just a little HP.
My boat took a while to get right. We made over 5/8 inches changes in height, tried 5 different sets of props , and the final change that made it perform was another ¼ inch additional height, ½ inch extra diameter prop, and changed prop rotation from out to in. The final changes were done at TNT with Johny driving the boat between changes, and we tried at least one set of props from Gary, while there.
Once you get them dialed in, they are super efficient, great acceleration, and just fun to drive.
The absolute best I have ever run was on 12/1/07, 102.5 on the system view gps but 102.9 on the Garmin 492 GPS. Not sure which one is right, but the Garmin is always 0.3 – 0.4 mph faster at speed.
Air-temp: 84
Humidity: 56%
Winds 9mph ENE
Charlotte Harbor, light chop <1ft
POB: 2
Fuel on board upon return to dock: 45
Fuel on board during speed portion of run: 50
