It's gonna be like we all thought. A heavy motor, big gear case equals not so much speed increase. Needed to have another 100hp with same weight as XS or X motor to see real impact.
Motor will have its application but not for a light weight cat. My money is on the 300x still lbs for HP!

I won't argue with you on that point Dale. Just would expect Tony to just tell me the truth, or if he told me the truth and it was not good, he knows he could just tell me to keep it secret(not post) idk bud. What have you heard? Or can you still not post it?

I cant believe they are not telling the real deal. It is what it is. Mercury needs to own the motor and however it performs or under performs it may keep someone from wasting their money. It really is not a knock on DCB either.
WTH!

I don't know exactly why people thought that this engine would be the holy grail for outboard boats. It was obviously developed for a different market and everyone thought it was for them when in reality it is a bus motor that we want to fit into a canoe.
Nortec with what, four of them, does 97 and now a cat with two of them goes RUMORED 102? Maybe the gear case is only good for around 100? Didn't Mercury do their homework prior to selling it to the public or are they using the public for their r&d both are learning together, with the customers paying for the lessons

I agree Ron, but it may not be the motor's problem. If the boat is a turd, 800hp isn't going to push it much over a hundred. I do think they'll get it to run decent, but obviously they haven't yet.............it's nothing but the sound of cricket's coming out of DCB right now. The same thing happened when Teague built his 28 Speedster w/ a pair of his Whippled/EFI motors (825hp each). They started a build thread on Performance Boats about how they were building the next great thing, updated the thread through the entire build process, and after 13 pages of posts and the boat being on the water all they would post was 4,000rpm and 100mph, top speed 155+ theoretical (WTF). I've talked to a guy that is buddies with BT and has been in the boat - it runs low 140s, and that's why they never post the "real" #s or put up pics of the dash (speed/tachs) at speed. If I were trying to sell high performance boats and started a build thread, the final posts would be of a video with the dash in full view showing the boat accelerating up to top speed, so potential customers could see exactly how well the boat performs. And even then, the manufacturers can alter the facts in their favor by running extremely tall/thin props, no fuel/passengers and turning up the boost for a video run. But the boats normally never even run close to what they claim, and that's why us outboard Skater guys can run with 99% of the performance boats on the water because we're truly all running good #s!
