The shop said that the internal flapper on the merc switchable exhaust that you can see if you look in through the through hull exhaust is "NOT SERVICEABLE", is this correct? I can see that the rubber is missing and I'm assuming is what's causing the clanging noise. Is this correct that you can't get new rubbers for these??
The flappers that are in the BULL HORN exhaust pipe that goes down to the outdrive, I'm having those replaced with the new type.

i had the same problem.with the tips. go to eddiemarine.com they carry a replaceable flapper.its used in there tips.you will have to take out the tips and drill two holes for the rod to go thru.the toughest job is removing the tips.another way around is to use the salisbury external flaps i use both.
good luck

Sonic28, when you put the new flappers in, did you weld them in place or secure them another way?
Also, do you know what the difference is with what they term the stealth flapper? What's the difference, about the price of the other.

when you drill the holes the give you a flush grommet. you can weld it.i did not the hose itself will hold it in place it's easier to replace if it goes again.the second i have no idea what your talking about.but if you talk to eddie or ken at eddie marine they will tell you what you need,
