CMI Headers for 496 HO's

Re: CMI Headers for 496 HO's
Thanks for the question, as I was wondering the same. Saw an article on the CMI for the 496 HO in Powerboat Magazine a few months back and they had a nice write up on it. They make it sound like the cats meow, but have not seen anyone out there with it installed.
Anyone out there using the CMI for the 496 HO?
Pete

Re: CMI Headers for 496 HO's
sent a note to fred at trick marine about cmi exhaust for the 496 engines and said the majority of users are getting 5-6 mph increase ? I wonder if this is with a new prop ?

I had no need to switch props. Have both a labbed 26 and 28
Bravo 1 the 28 is a little faster but takes longer to get there. So the 26 was and is still the prop for me.Pryor to the labbed 26 I had a stock 26 with diffusser ring removed from that to labbed 26 and standard exhaust was about 2 to 3 mph add the CMI's add about another 3to 4 mph I found 6 to 7 mph
for $4500.00. Other possibilities are to have your heads ported for some better flow could be another few mph there.Plus they do look sweet but don't be fooled by the installation estimated time I think it is if the engine is on a stand and not you laying in a tight bilge every bit of a day and a half.
Hope that helps!

Ps my package did not have the right studs to install but I got excellent support from CMI but purchased through Trick

Thanks for the info Donzilla. Which boat did you install the CMI's on, as I see you have a few different boats according to your profile?
Thx,
