150 hours on these motors is no big deal with someone who is maintnance driven. The biggest thing for these motors is to do the valve train around 150 to 200 and the head gaskets around 250 -300. Then I like to pull thew blowers and send them out and have them freshened up. I have a few customers with 275 and 300 hours on there rigs and all is fine. We use Mercury oil and filters and do an oil change every 30 hours. Drives every 50.

Generator's got to be half-way under the back seat. Boat should run mid-80's almost any day, although never ran one
(358) with a genset before.

yup! We have a used 38 with carbed 500's and it runs mid 70's. So a 525 boat runs high 70's to 80. Hugh would better tell you about price difference. Even with a 525 you still should do valve train changes 250 to 350 hours. Just as a maintnance factor. I have seen some fail.

I'd say 575s in that boats is an over kill.....I was told by a mutual friend that those 35 hauls are only good to close to 85-90 anyway... By the way whats the story on the 97 42 w/500's you guys have listed?

A 500EFI 358 was about 74 - 77 mph...a well-proped 386 w/525's would just bump 80 mph. That 42 is a brokerage boat, and is off-site. I'll have to do some research for you.
