Steve, out of curiousity how does the newer model 31ss run with twin ho's? One of the main reasons I sold mine was because I personally thought it was to slow for my liking. I had a 26 prowler with single ho/bravo 1. Boy it was a slug in every way.

There was a 2002 31ss for sale in middle river md with zero hours on twin ho's that started in the 70's and finally sold well over a year later for mid-low 50's. It was almost brand new condition also.

Kevin, I can't speak for all 31's but my boat with 496 HOs 1/2 fuel and two people on board will run 72 - 73 MPH on GPS @ 4900 RPM. Not sure if its the way I am trimming the boat or if its the props but I can never seem to get that last 200 RPM which could mean a mile per hour or so more. I had a friend with a 26 Prowler 502 Mag best he could get was 62 MPH. The ride between a 31 and a 26 is night and day !

So I've bin told, never bin on 31. 26,28, 38 is what I've had the privilege of being on. Best I ever got was 63 gps. That was two people on boat and I always had a full tank of fuel. But with any more people and full of beer it was a true 60 mph boat. Needless to say I got sick of being last person out of the pack to make it to the bar. I had a friend with a single engine 32 sunsation that would be out of my site in 2-3 minutes!

I know we have gone down this way before but as for speed... my boat with the new 8.2 merc mag, not HO will go over 70..... When it was delivered to me I was told it went 71. that came from Tony Frisina who tested it with Arrow Marine in NJ. I have had it at that speed with 1/4 tank of fuel....and a couple of upgrades... but that is all...I do not want to get into a disagreement again over speed... but it is what it is..... HO's should be mcuh better than that....

Sp123, I wasn't disagreeing with you at all. I was having a casual conversation with steve about his experience with his boat and I interjected with my experience. Not sure how you thought I was disagreeing with you and don't believe I disagreed with you during your original post either? I do recall many others not believing your speed claims but I don't believe I was one of them. Good luck with your sale also.

Default sonic

Kevin was not saying that at all... merly sending out the buffer before I got hammered again form those who claim they know more about my boat then I do... only trying to conribute to this conversation and attempting to answer a question.. Since thereapy Kevin.. I do not get angry anymore... jsut try to help...I would expect the new HO engines to push the boat to mid 70/s that was my point.. by the way if you know of anyone looking for a 2011 sonic there is a commission availabe for anyone who can get me a buyer. this is priced extremely reasonably.... offers are always considered.
