Default Cruised my 30SS to Nantucket from NY

Weathered some horrific 7 foot seas in the ocean near Newport, hence waited for better weather there before continuing to Nantucket. I'd hate to think what would have happened in a cat or some of the oddball stepped hull boats.

Scared the heck out of me (and the wife), but the Sonic shook off the nasty seas with ease. I was sure some of the waves were going to come right over the bow, but it always popped up in time to avoid that.

A cat would have shipped water right over the bow for sure, possibly flipped or turned over in the high winds and confused seas. A stepped hull boat would have spun on the weird waves.

After ten days on the boat, the wife wants to do an even longer trip next time. Cedos to Sonic for making a great boat and staying away from steps!

I must have answered about two hundred questions about the "coolest boat in the harbour" in Nantucket, as there were NO other performance boats docked there, lots of mega yachts though.

Makes me glad I don't own a stepped hull or a cat.

What is a 30ss? We all know about the 31ss but I don't know about the 30ss. It either pre-dates the 31 or you have one of Sonic's secret projects.

If it's an oldie but goodie, where can we see pics of it. I love boat pics.

Right 29 Outlaw, it is hull number 42 in 1988, the first year of the design that looks the same as the newer Sonic 31SS. I understand the older hulls like mine are heavier than the newer ones, and MUCH heavier than hulls using the latest resin techniques Sonic uses. It has Scorpions, Bravo ones, a raised X dim and labbed props.

Top speed is about 70 without all the custom stuff on my boat, 65 with it on the way I like it. When the radar goes on this winter, that will slow it down still more. To see pictures, look at my profile, for lots. Also, see the shots of Hyperfishing.com in the NYC Poker run on PowerBoatingCharities.com and Marinemachine.com.
