Any Georgia Boaters here?
I'm looking at a 1980 24' in Georgia, it has no VIN number and is not registered nor has it been for the past five years. Owner say it does have a DNR number (Department of Natural Resoures) How does that work when you try and register the boat here in Florida? Does anybody have any idea? I want to make sure I can get it registered here in Florida before I buy it. Thanks

You need a valid reg and a notorized bill of sale. If reg has expired he will have to get it current. Florida is tough without a title and ga boats usually don't have them. I am a dealer in both states and gave gone through the hoops it can frustrating as hell sometimes.

GA used to be easy, but currently have subcontracted the registration process. Its real time consuming getting it done now.
The seller needs to contact DNR for an inspection and he will issue a HIN. Expect three months or so for them to show up. Also need that Georgia boat reg card in the current owners name or you will have to track down the last registered owner.
You probably will owe back taxes as well.
I have two relatives that have had a very difficult time getting everything current on older boats.
BTW, Where is the boat? I'm not in the market but would be happy to look at it if its local.
