Default 24 Spectre SCS

Looking for some other owners for some input on set up. Mine is a 2007 / 275 Verado. Wondering what props and set backs are being used the most. So far I've seen 58.8 and the boat wants to porpoise pretty bad when you get above 45 or so. Any input would be great. Thanks, Ted[/IMG]

The porposing characteristic is the nature of the beast. The main reason your boat porposes, is that the engine just plain weighs too much, making the boats center of gravity too far aft. Its pretty common for performance boats(read: narrower beam hulls) to have this problem, especially in recent years where everyone has switched from the lighter 2 strokes, to the heavier 4 strokes. Compensation is made by designing more weight forward, constantly using more tab(or larger tabs), and the use of four-blade props, which provide "some" transom lift at higher speeds...or a combination of a little of all three. Hope this helps.

The way it came from Jay. 21 Tempest Plus on a 5"(pretty sure) hyd. plate. Tried a 22 Bravo 1 yesterday, was more efficient, better cruise speed, and didn't start the porpoising as early as the Tempest. Would love to sell or trade the Verado for a 300XS, but sucks having to change all the controls and buy sreering. I'm thinking with the weight it probably needs to be closer instead of farther off the transom, but hate to give up the hyd. plate. Jay told me that the weight was the problem, but was hoping to at least improve on the problem. Maybe take the 280 off the Allison and put it on there. NAAAA Any suggestions?

Thanks, I was begining to wonder if there were any out there. Does yours have a T-Top or radar arch? And is the motor bolted to the transom or on a plate? Ted

When that 24 was designed the verado didn't exist. The added weight of this engine does lead to a small porpoise that can be corrected by dragging a small amount of tab. Top speed isn't affected much by doing so....

Finally got around to making a change. Moved the batteries from the transom to under the center console, and went to a 22 Bravo 1. Very noticable difference in efficiency and cruise speeds, for the better, as well as helped alot with the porpoise issue.
