Performance on a 32' Sunsation with 496 Mag HO's
Hi, any one out there have a 32' with 496 Mag HO's? What speed are you running at 3000, 3500, 4000 RPM, and what is your top speed. What props are you running? Are they lad finished? I've been useing the article PowerBoat Magazine did in 1999 on a 32' with 454 Mags as a bench mark. Their numbers seem good so I'm hopeing for a little better with the 80+ horse power, and lab finished props.
Thanks Kirk

KN,
When I was researching Sunsation as my next boat, I looked at every possible engine combo and the speed associated with them. I'm not sure about your cruising speeds at different rpm's but as far as top seed, I'd be surprised if you didn't see an honest 81-82mph. What were you thinking you might net?

Hey Diveboy
I was just wondering if anyone out there had this set up in their boat. I think the HP-500's and the 496 Mag's are both more popular packages. I was just looking for real world numbers. I'm sure I'll see 80+ maybe in ideal conditions I'll see somewhere around 83. I will be able to cruise between 50-60 MPH at 3000-4000 RPM, thats more important to me than the top speed.
Have you decided to go with a Sunsation or are you still looking? Good Luck.

Hey Kirk,
I think you're right on the money as far as the sppeds you'll be running. When looking for a used Sunsation, I talked to a guy that had put 502 MPI's in his and and 83 mph. He claimed to cruise a cruising speed (while between 3200-3500 rpm) of 55-60 mph.
I recently found my boat (I was the guy looking at the 1997 listed on OSO with the windshield), it's a 1999 32' Dominator (T-hp500's). The boat should be here from TX. sometime in March. I'm counting the days!!!

Congratulations on your new boat. I'm counting the days as well. My boat is sitting in a wharehouse in Michigan I'm not going to have it shipped untill April, when the ice finally breaks from the lakes. It's going to be a long winter What graphics do you have on your boat?

Mike,
Which props worked best for your 32? I ran a set of labbed 28's with the 454 mag's at 4900 rpm (high 70's) and switched to a custom 32 after the superchargers. I don't don't seem to be getting the speed out of these props compared to what other people are getting out of the HP500.
Any advice is appreciated.

KN, I have a 2001 32' with 496 MAG HO's. I mainly cruise 2800 @ 43 MPH. 3000 @ 48-50. 4000 @ 70 MPH. WOT yesterday - 70 degrees perfect chop 5100 RPM @ 83 MPH. This is the fastest this boat has gone since I have owned it (4/01). I have 28P 4-blades (not labbed).

Hey az dominator, first and foremost welcome to the board, secondly thanks for the reply. Is that 83 MPH on the speedo or GPS? Are you hitting the rev limiter @ 5100 RPM I thought the max RPM range for this engine is 4800-5000 RPM I wonder how a pair of lab finished 30's would do, or Hydromotive 29's
Thanks Kirk

Yeah I was curious about the speedo/gps read as well. I was assuming 79-82 with the 496HO set up. AZ, how's the boat loaded out as far as goodies like a/c, refer, etc. and what was your load people/gas wise? BTW, rev-limiter for these engines are 5150 according to the book...
