Default P5 Class Questions

Am I reading the rules correctly that P5 must be Single engine in SBI ? Also what GPS units are you running? Garmin 172 ? What other ones can I use ?

Thanks for the help.

Michael,

That's correct: single engine, 30 foot or less, 72.0 mph max on GPS. Most teams are using the Garmin 172. If you have something else in mind, you need to call SBI and see that it's compatible with the verification software.

Sean.......

Sure wish you could be in Key West this year........it is sounding like it's going to be HUGE.............I'm pretty sure we're going to top Fantasy Fest.
Take care, and watch for lots of pictures.

Sean answered your question but to add to it. The Garmin 172 is either discontinued or will be, but they have a replacement (basically it is a upgrade to the 172) I forget the new ones name but most of the GPS's above the 172 will work with their (SBI's) system. They just need to be able to download your info from your unit at the end of a race.

And yes P5 in SBI is single engine, but not in OPA...... See the reason the rules need to be the same?? it gets to confusing!!!

Ah, No... It can't be that easy

Each organization has their own way of keeping track of the speeds. Each has their own strong points.
The OPA has a different GPS unit that you can buy through them. Go to their web site and you'll see how and where to order one. (OPARACING.com)

Pat,

I do wish I could be there! Unfortunately it's bad timing this year...too many things out here coming together the same week. Mom and Dad will be there Thursday-Sunday, so be on the look out for them. Keep the pictures coming...both on and off the course.

Hey Sean,

It will be nice to mom and dad again! We ALL keep an eye on them. I am just sorry to hear that you cannot make it to Key West. I am sure they will take lots of pictures for you!

Miss you both!
