Pat,
I would think that the life span of a 6.2 is alot longer then 400 hrs. Afterall, it comes with a 6 year warranty. The duty cycle of the Merc. 600sci is 400 hrs. That was told to me by Scott, the Merc Racing rep. And that has a 1 year warranty.

Rick, I wonder how they ( merc...who ever, the industry ) figure the average yearly hours ??? I have heard any where's from 50 to 100 per year ??????

Marine engines really need proper matinence to live there duty cycle. I haven't seen too many factory engines that made it 400+ hrs trouble free, I would think that warrenty gets used more then not. Quoting the article in Powerboat on the 1500 sterling 50-200 hrs before rebuild depending on how its abused... I mean used 
Most of the 500's that got a whipples slaped on them lasted about to the 200hr mark before rebuild w/ normal boost. The motors I have seen and builders I have talked to kinda agree that a motor built for supercharging from scratch will last longer then a stocker w/ a kit.... but It all comes down to how you use it and your matinence schedule.
