Default Saving money on a Y2K: Poker run special different than standard Y2K?

I got my price estimate from John the other day. I went a little wild with options and ended up with $98,000 for a Y2K with 496HO/XR drive, full hyd steering, k-planes, race mounts, sea strainer, smartcraft 5000, dual batteries, install my stereo, porti potti, cockpit cover and trailer.

That's out of my Navy salary price range.

I'm looking at the $59,000 poker run special http://www.superboatonline.com/30-Y2...erCruiser.html

Does this have a heavier layup than the standard boat? I'm thinking about going with this boat, with all the listed options (425HP HO, K-planes, race mounts, hyd steering) but making sure I have a dual ram steering- I don't want a single ram.

Are the race engine mounts worth $775?

I can always do my own GPS/stereo/dual battery install- I'm very mechanically inclined. Don't need a cockpit cover, I'll order a full length one since it will be stored outside on the trailer. Each one of those cuts out a $1,000.

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure where the $40,000 in options came from ?? What was the breakdown?

40K does seem a bit high for the options you spoke of.

Here's the breakdown:

Y2K hull race contruction: 43,000
490HO/XR 24,600
380 K-tabs 2775
race engine mount 725
sea strainer 425
richie coupler? 195
porti poti with cover 650
dual batts w/ isolator 675
dual piston full hyd steering 6,800
cockpit cover 900
smartcraft 5000 gauge 1,100
install my stereo and GPS 950
trailer 5200
custom rigged turn key 9,500
lab prop 890

$98,385 total

That's a far cry from $59,000 plus some options... My dad is calling back tomorrow to get clarification on what the $9,500 rigging cost is and what triggers it. Now I'm just thinking the basic $59,000 boat with upgrades for k-planes, external steering, 425HP HO motor, and that's it. Was looking to spend around 75k max with trailer.

I want dual ram steering, but really need full hyd if it's not needed- $6800 is a lot for steering- the costs for a system is around $4000 to DIY.

The up charge for the 496Ho w/XR is 24,000 ? Is that drive really that much more? If the website says $4,500 for 496HO with X drive your paying $20,000 for the XR? I think I would ask about that rigging charge as well !

I don't think that's the upcharge, the entire 496HO engine with XR drive is $24,000. Looks like they priced the hull and power package separate. And a huge rigging charge too.

I'm not sure those numbers make sense based on the prices others have paid?

Exactly. My dad is calling John again today to figure it all out. Hopefully will get some good news and I'll get some financing and place the order.

If I was to buy a new Y2K, I'd be buying the bare minimum and add options down the road as the $$ allow...
As I recall the standard hull is about 4K less. Rick will build it plenty strong and it won't weigh but a couple of 100 more than the foam cored hull.
The race mount is $$ well spent right from the factory.
If your budget is $75K, I'd go 496HO Bravo X drive, Race mount, K-planes, and have Rick mold a spot for a depth finder.
Run her for a year and then up grade the steering.
Talk to Krackmeup, he had his boat done similar from JC and has been adding all the other nice options along the way...
JC is nickle and diming you over the phone. Have your Dad visit him face to face. JC is old school, if you have a deposit check for him, he'll make you a great deal...

Great advice pat!! I too would rather have the boat first and add options later. I would also compare a custom motor from a local builder. May get more power for the $$, and later add a blower. Trust me, you will want to go faster!!!!!!
