Rebuilt Bravo one lower unit
I have a rebuilt Bravo One lower unit for sale. This came off a drive that I broke an upper on. I had it professionally gone thru and rebuilt. It has all new bearings and seals etc. I am even offering a 60 day guarantee. I no longer can use this lower since I have upgraded to XR drives. Also this came off of a OM serial number drive so it has the latest improvements. And lastly it has a low water pick up. If you have any questions email me [email protected]
I would like to get 900.00 for it. I spent close to that just to rebuild it !!!

My $.02....get an XR upper and keep it as a spare. The regular bravo uppers are the problem, that lower should outlast an XR upper. (all you would need is a regular bravo prop hub)

FYI a regular Bravo 1 lower will not work with an XR drive (upper). On a Bravo, the gear ratio is determined by the upper gear sets.
On an XR, the ratio is determined by the lower gears.
There are many internal differences in the two drives, thus making them not compatible with each other, at least as far as I know.

I don't know the specifics....but 2 buddies have done exactly that on their twin engine boats after blowing a regular bravo upper. They needed and ended up with 1.50 ratio drives. One is still running his 2 years later, the other has since upgraded his boat and has complete XR's now.
hopefully one of the experts will chime in.......

I just did some research on this and they will swap back and forth.
Smitty is right that XR gearing is done in the lower and standard drive gearing is handled in the upper. BUT, A standard 1.65, 1.50, or 1.35 drive will have 15/19 gears in the lower. A XR drive will require the same 15/19 gear combo in the lower to achieve a 1.50 ratio. The only difference I know of between an xr and standard is prop shaft size and bearing carrier, but these difference don't have anything to do with mating to the upper. Merc only makes two different model lower cases now, DWP and LWP. They are the same part number regardless if they will be used for a standard or XR.
I have an OM lower from a 1.65 standard drive that is going to be mated to a OW XR upper. This will give me a 1.50 ratio XR upper / standard lower.
