This is my favorite part. I can't even figure out what this means. It is like the verbage in one of Bigandy's, and Chadwick's contracts.
While standard checkpoints such as those done in Texas by the federal government are prohibited by state law, the Montgomery County DA’s Office will implement a saturation patrol sobriety checkpoint that complies with current law.
If it complies with the current law??? Isn't it illegal???

Beer company films county’s DWI efforts
Filmmakers with Anheuser-Busch have followed members of the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office over Labor Day weekend in hopes of getting a glimpse of how the county combats intoxicated drivers.
On Nov. 12, the Texas District and County Attorney’s Association will host a statewide DWI summit to offer training seminars for law enforcement officers and prosecutors, said Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Warren Diepraam, who heads the Vehicular Crimes Unit.
“Several years ago, (the association) contacted the responsible drinking division of Anheuser-Busch to see if they would partner for statewide DWI training,” Diepraam said. “It resulted in a four-hour seminar broadcast live throughout the state of Texas to police officers and prosecutors.”
The film, which will include segments from a press conference that unveiled the county’s first breath alcohol testing mobile unit, will give prosecutors in other areas of Texas an idea about what Montgomery County does to combat the continuing DWI problem, Diepraam said.
“(The first film) was a resounding success,” Diepraam said. “It was one of the most creative training programs in the nation for DWI.”
The four-hour seminar will be broadcast from St. Louis to beer distributors in 31 cities across the state and distributors in five other states, Diepraam said.
“They are going to be talking about topics including field sobriety testing and creative law enforcement techniques in DWI,” Diepraam said.
One unique method employed by Montgomery County includes asset seizures from other offenders such as drug dealers, Diepraam said.
“They know that Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon is using asset forfeiture funds to purchase state-of-the-art equipment,” Diepraam said. “They know that the techniques we’re using in Montgomery County are cutting edge and will be copied by police and prosecutors across the state.”
Although random sobriety checkpoints are prohibited in Texas, local law enforcement officials have used traffic violations to find intoxicated drivers, Diepraam said.
The film also will feature officers conducting field sobriety tests, a nurse drawing blood for blood alcohol tests and prosecutors obtaining search warrants.
“This is a good way to use what the police do and what we do as a learning tool,” Diepraam said. “This is a little bit Hollywood, but this is real, and the consequences are real.”
Diepraam also will be a seminar instructor.
“This is how to make police officers better on the street in how to enforce DWI laws and how to make prosecutors better in the courtroom in prosecuting cases,” Diepraam said.
The training film will be featured in Conroe at Silver Eagle Distributors, located at 2617 Industrial Lane.

Coast Guard Auxiliary Training exercise on Lake Conroe.
By: Gene Winchester
Coast Guard Auxiliary members from all across the Houston/Galveston area showed up early Saturday morning on August 28 at Lake Conroe to take place in rigorous training exercises with the Coast Guard called "Operation Red Fish." These training exercises were simulations of search and rescue operations as well as a helicopter extraction from the water. While the MythBusters on TV have "Buster", the crash-test dummy to take the fall in their experiments, the Coast Guard Auxiliary has "Oscar." Oscar is used as a training dummy and fills with water to simulate the weight of a typical human. A boat took Oscar out and dumped him overboard in an undisclosed area of the lake and then fixed wing aircraft circled the lake to find him. Once a plane spotted the victim, radio contact to boats on the water relayed the location for the rescue. It sounds very straight forward, but there are many people doing several tasks well to make this successful.
Once Oscar was recovered from the search and rescue, he was again placed overboard for the helicopter rescue. The Coast Guard brought up their HH-65C Dolphin helicopter, stationed at Ellington Field for this event. During this phase of the training the helicopter spotted the victim with the help of the crews aboard watercraft, some using signaling mirrors. Then it hovered in close and released a diver into the water. The victim was placed in a lowered basket and hauled aboard the chopper then the swimmer was picked up. Again, watching this from a distance looks almost routine, but seeing everything that has to go absolutely perfectly for the rescue to be successful is amazing.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary is in place to promote safety on the water and working as a force multiplier for the Coast Guard.
These individuals with the Coast Guard Auxiliary are volunteers that give their time and effort to make a difference. While they are sometimes motivated by different things to join, it's important to know that they are all motivated. If you would like to know more about the Coast Guard Auxiliary you can call 936-588-3322.-588-3322

1 Dies, 2 Injured When Boat Goes Airborne
HOUSTON -- A holiday weekend boating trip ended tragically for three people, including a child, after their vessel went airborne.
Investigators said the trio were on a boat in Clear Creek in League City when the driver hit a bank.
A woman and a 9-year-old boy were thrown from the boat.
Authorities said the 80-year-old driver lost control after making a sharp turn, possibly at a high rate of speed.
The boat flew 10 to 15 feet into the air and landed in a wooded area about 100 feet away, smashing into a tree.
The woman died later at Memorial Hermann Hospital.
Investigators said alcohol did not appear to have been a factor in the accident.
