Gears with GM 6.0 gas motor
I've got an 03 2500 Suburban w/ the 6.0 motor and 3.73 gears. The 4.10 were an option I passed up but I'm considering switching to them now.
Anyone have real world experience comparing the 2?
How strong did the 4.10 pull compared to the 3.73?
How bad did the gas mileage drop?
This is my wife's daily driver and a new diesel isn't an option

What mileage are you getting? I get 14mpg everyday with 4.10 with an 04 2500 HD crew cab 4x4 with the 6.0 motor. When I tow my 9000lbs I get 10-11.

Just wondering what the gears would cost, and how much benefit???

Russ weight the two out, when faith is driving around town, the 410's will have it screaming at rpms, not just a gas mileage reduction its going to be a little harder on the motor too. how often and how far are you towing? and what is the majority usage of it, thats the way I would go. dont adjust everything for the least amount of use...Rob

Rob, That's exactly what I'm trying to determine. Most of her driving is around town (not highway speeds) so the extra gears wouldn't be much of a factor. We take the truck out of town 3-4 times a year on road trips but that's it (truck gets 15K miles a year total) Probably won't change anything, just wondering if it's worth it.

your going to see a increase of 10% more power at the tires(3,73 divided by 4.11) and a possible 10% drop in mileage on highway. That same 9 or 10 % applys to your rpm's too,if your currently turning 2000 rpm's at highway speed you'll be turning about 2200. My 99 dodge i had went from 9.5 mpg empty to 11 going from 3.55 gears to 4.11 so you don't always see a drop in mileage from re-gearing lower,Smitty

flat interstate towing today was 75mph at 2,300 RPM's. Power seems fine there. It's stoplights and getting up to speed that seems s...l...o...w.

Right know you about 2900 lbs over weight for your vehicle. your maxed at 7600 4X4 with the 3.73. If you go with the 4.10 your up to 9600lbs a little closer but still not there. I would go to the 4.10 It will save your trans and motor. just my .02

Really the 8.1 engine is what you want. I have one in my Avalanche w/ 4.10 gears and I get 11 mpg around town 13 on the highway at 80 mph (2800 rpm). If you want try a hypertech or diablo predator programmer, these will help with the acceleration and are about $300.

Don't get the Hypertech. Get the Diablo Predator. MUCH better tool.
