I agree, get a Putnam XDR. The cost is not that bad, about $ 190.

Pulled a Fastech 312 and 353 around from 98-2002 w/ a 3/4 ton Burb. No probs. Stop and go stuff and alot of I-75 miles bet Detroit and northern Michigan. My 382 behind the Burb is another story. Hope to order an 06 2500 w/ the Max in early 06. Good luck, Wrink

Re: weight distribution hitch needed?
Thanks for all the replies. "I'm glad I asked" is an understatement.
My '05 2500HD crew cab diesel with the "heavy duty" tow package has a hitch with a weight carrying capacity of 1000 lbs max tongue weight and 7500 lbs max trailer weight. Would I get by with this hitch....maybe. But by the time you add the trailer, fuel, beer , etc. I could be looking at 10,000+ lbs. Why do they put a POS hitch on a vehicle rated to tow 12,000 lbs?
The answer (thanks to you guys).... Putnam XDR
Weight carrying 1500 lbs TW and 15,000 lbs GTW
A little money for a lot of piece of mind...
Thanks for the replies from similar rigs. It's good to know my truck will tow this 292 well.
