F-350 Dually w/ 7.3L PSD Poor Fuel Economy
Hey Gang,
I've got a 2000 350 Dually with a 7.3L, 6-spd manual tranny, 4.10 axles. It has about 80k miles, engine is factory stock.
I've noticed that, even unloaded, my best mileage is 10-11mpg. Towing a 10,000lb load doesn't change mileage much; as long as I keep it under 75mph or so, I get 9mpg. Performance seems to be as good as it's ever been, and I've owned the truck since new. I used to get 15-16mpg unloaded not long ago.
Where do I start looking? Are there any engine codes to look for? Anything else that I can pull from the computer? I've never played with a code monitor, but I have access to one.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially with diesel fuel prices at $3.30.
Thanks in advance,
Brian

at work I drive a 2000 350 w/ 7.3, 4:10 gears. Loaded with a rack and 3 toolbox's. 90% of the time pulling 12,000+ lbs. Doesn't matter towing or not.. 10-12 mpg thats it. But it does have a diablo sport chip in the computer.. Even with the 12,000 lbs on the back it will still do a burnout

For some reason they don't reset after a while, push your reset button after you are done towing to get your mpg while empty again. BTW, mine never reads better than about 9.something. I don't know how you guys are getting 14?????

A Superchips Microtuner and Air Intake should help about 3-4 MPG.
