What Tires will fit a 2003 3500 Dually ? Need Bigger
I am looking for some bigger tires for my Dually .I bet some of you OSO members has all ready changed them out ?What size did you go with??
The Chevys come with such small tires on the 4x4 Dually from the factory. They look funny . It has Goodyears ATS LT215 85 R16 10ply load E on it now. I would like to stay with the all AT style ,But I want a taller and a little wider tire . It has about 1-1 1/2inch clearance between the 2 rear tires.I am thinking something around a 245 or 256 size will fit ?
All ready have the rims ,so I'm not going up from 16's
Thanks
Rob

I had a 99 crewcab dually and i fit the 265-75-16 all the way around......i think i had a 5/16" spacer on the rear tires to keep them from rubbing together if memory serves me right......but it filled up the whell wells nicely. And you can go to the dealer to get the computer reflashed for the larger tires with no problem.
If you have the D-max then make sure the tech knows what they are doing cause theres apparently two different computers that need to be updated. The engine and the trans BOTH need the info updated or you may get some weird shifting patterns.....

I wonder if my rims have a differant offset on the rear that I might not have to use a spacer??

I have an 01 3500. It came with little 215's on it. I ran a set of 235/85's until they wore out.... they came close to touching when loaded in the rear but I never had any problems with them. Not much of a difference in ride or looks.
A few weeks ago, I put on a set of BFG mud terrain size 255/85 (3000lbs load range D) and installed a set of index keys for the front torsion bars, which raised the front up almost 2", and put in a 2" block in the rear. Without a spacer the rears would rub bad, so I put in a 1/2" spacer and now they only slightly touch if loaded heavy.
So far I have 5k miles on them and really love the ride. The are great off road and at boat ramps (havent been stuck yet). I will rotate them pretty soon and make sure that the sidewalls of the rear aren't wearing.... if they are, I will have to move up to a bigger spacer, which would require longer studs.

Did you have to change the studs with the 1/2" spacer ??

Let me first say I have a 2001 Ford Dually 4X4.
DO NOT PUT ON THE 265'S....WIDER NOT TALLER.
MIne came with 235/85/16's
I have had three different sets of 255/85/16's on my dually. They are load rated at about 2900 lbs and can carry what the 235/85/16 E rated tires will. This is the Largest tire you can run on a dually with out the spacers.... Like I said 3 sets of tires with no problems.
DO NOT RUN THE SPACERS
best set to date. TOYO M-55 RADIALS. Fantastic tire, just over 33" tall and only turn 624 revs per mile, lowering your rear end ratio on a 4.10 rear end to about 3.93-3.91. 70 on the speedo = 73 MPH.
I have just put another set on about a month ago. fills in the wheel wells better.

The spacer that I have does not require longer studs.... but anything wider would.
Bryan- the chevy wheels don't have as much offset as the fords.... the biggest tire that can be installed without spacers on a chevy is a 235.

Rob, I put 285/75/16 goodyear ats "D's" on my 02 chevy dually with the alcoa's,up front i turned the torsion bars up 3.5 turns and in the rear i had arp make me longer studs and had 2'' spacers made. I towed my 41 apache for two years and 32,000 miles with no problems at all and it looked perfect filled up the wheel wells and still was inside the fenders and no rubbing. Ike
