Anyone extened the tounge on a trailer before? I was told and had the idea myself that you could cut the the tounge slide a piece of matching square tubing on both cut ends and weld. this would be for a short 2.5 foot extension. I had even thought of putting a major bolt through both sides as security in case the weld failed. any thoughts?

Thanks for the info guys, I ended up ging to the manufacturer they already had a longer tongue I just have to bolt it on. I had to do it because I bought a boat and trailer seperate. The trailer is rated for 24-26 boat and the boat is a 27. I thought i could get away with extending the bunks and letting it hang over the end but that created balance issues. So I am lengthening the front instead.

I haven't finished the mod yet. I spoke to the manufacturer, actually a mechanic that builds and services them he told me all the changes I had to do. The axles are adjustable and he told me where to put them. He told me the tongue weight would be about 500 lbs.
