Default Chevy or GMC 1500 & 2500 Questions

This 0% for 72 months has got me wondering about a new truck. I'd love to have a new Crew Cab 4x4 duramax, but the $600.00 payment scares me!!

So I was thinking of going with a 3/4 ton 2500 with the 6.0....does anyone have one of these?? Do you like it?? What kind of MPG do you get?? What do you tow???

Then I was thinking of going with the 1500HD with the 6.0.....

Or since I am downsizing on the size of boat and I rarely tow anymore. I was thinking of a 1/2 ton 1500 with the 5.3 or the 6.0 for around town and to work.

All of these would be Crew Cab shortbeds........

HELP!!!

WOW - you are kind of all over the board on vehicle selection, first decide what you can afford and what really fits YOU, then figure out how to get all the truck you can for that amount. Otherwise this stuff will drive you nuts, all those you mention have great attributes, but one fits you better than other and go from there. Remember, start with what YOU need and can afford, not what the manufacturer makes and you can force fit into your life...

i got an 03 2500HD with the 6.0 and i get about 13mpg when i'm not towing. when i am towing it's usually anything from 20-30 ft and i drop to 11.9 mpg. it's a gas HOG!!! but, it's always got the power i need plus some!
now i HAD a 2002 1500 with the 5.3 and got about 14-15 mpg with it but i actually burned it up towing. (wierd huh) with that said, both are shortbeds with extended cabs. not too familiar with the 1500HD. i wanted one but couldn't find one. good luck!

I drive a '04 2500HD 6.0 everyday for work. Couldnt tell you about the gas mileage, I dont pay for it. But I fill up about every other day. I tow construction equipment frequently, the most being 10,500 plus trailer. The truck has alot of "get up". Ive had 3 other of the same each with fuel pump problems. This one has 100,000 mi. and the pump is begining to whistle, so it is about to go next. I personally own a '04 Tahoe LT with maybe 10,000 mi. No probs and love it.

My father in law is in the car business, he owns a dealership. I get to drive almost everything from all the manufacturers. I drove a 04 2500 HD with the intentions of buying the truck. It was a loaded low mile truck with the 6.0 gaser. It was a total dog, didn't pull my 28' Checkmate worth a crap. My 02 Avalanche with the 5.3 had a lot more power while towing. I end up buying a 04 F350 crew cab with a PSD. I have heard the new 6.0 is a totally new motor with alot more power. I would go with the 5.3 personally, alot easier on gas. Test drive both and pull your boat with both!

get a 1500 vortec max....it has a 6.0 HO(345 horse), 4L70 trans and 14 bolt rear. I pull 5000+ of boat and trailer every weekend and it hauls azz. any more and get a diesel....dont waste time with the 1500HD or 2500 gas trucks.

I currently have 4 GMC's(01,03,04,05) including my daily driver 2500 Duramax/Crew shortbed. The diesel is nice but I actually prefer my 05 5.3 truck for a daily driver non towing vehicle. Its quiet and very fast.
The diesel has been trouble free at 75K miles in 3 years but the noise and stiff ride get old around town.

The best of both worlds is a 5.3 1500 (non-HD) crew. They didn't have this in production when I bought my crew in 03 but this is the truck I would have bought. As others have said forget the 6.0/8.1 gas motors, too slow and thirsty........

I am going with a 3/4 ton GMC extended cab with the 6.0 in it. I tow 7500lbs and I am over my durango tow limits also when towing I only get 4-5 mpg and 10-12 not towing. So it can't be that bad on gas and I will be in the weight limits

I have an '02 2500HD w/ 6.0 pulling 29 Outlaw. Does a good job pulling (not as good as the Dmax but I'm not up to buying a diesel yet) was getting about 11 mpg on my way up to Lake St. Clair, MI.

But opinions are like a$$ holes....everyone has one

Consider this (or at least do some math)
My 2004 Duramax 2500HD CC get about 17-18 MPG on the highway not towing. Towing it gets about 12-13 MPG. I did install an Edge chip but I only noticed a small difference in the better mileage. The magic on a diesels mileage is RPM. If you keep the RPM around 2000 or below the mileage goes up considerably. If I am on a road that I can maintain 55-60 MPH, I get 22-24 MPG. So my question to you would be; What type of driving do you do the most? 75-80 MPH or more like 45-60 MPH? Heavy towing? Then diesel all the way. Also consider this. How long would you keep a new truck and what type of value are you expecting in 2-3 years? As you know, the diesel will ALWAYS retain a much higher value. So back to the "math". Average speed? Miles daily? Value at time of resell? How ofter you will be filling it up? The $600 per month for the diesel might be more than the gas truck per month, but by how much? $100? $200? What would be your "overall" savings spread out over time??? Just somethings to think about. Hope that helps...

Ben

PS: I absolutely LOVE my 2500HD Duramax!!! I would only replace it with a new one.
