Default Surge to E/H Brakes

I am currently running surge brakes on my trailer. I am interested in switching to electric over hydraulic. If I do switch, do I cut the old coupler off and weld a new one on?

Or just weld your existing one solid.

Aqua,

Just Did The Same Conversion On An Aluminum Triple Axel Hauling A 38 Scarab. I Am Extremely Happy And Left The Coupler The Way It Was. It Moves But No Problem Leaving It That Way.

I have done this a couple of times and can tell you that you will be very happy with the change and that it is a nobrainer.
First, just disconnect the brake line from the surge unit and connect it to a E/H actuator that has been bleed.
Then weld the coupler solid, This will take the slack out of the system and stop those jerks when you stop and start. It's really easy and a much better system.

http://www.etrailerpart.com/
www.easternmarine.com

These are two that I have found that have the parts. I am sure there are many more. Scott
