Default C4500 Max Hauling!!!

Whats the max anyone has or has heard of hauling with a 4500 kodiak, and was it comfortable at that weight or was it sluggish and was it easy to tell it was over weighted. Let me know I would be much more comfortable getting a kodiak dollars wise than a F650.

Thanks John

Are you asking what the manufacturer's rating is?

Anything above that is both stupid and illegal.

Yes I know that it is illegal, and that the max rating by GM is 17500 lbs, however say I pull two single boats and they come in under that and now I go to pull two twins and they are just over it like 19000 lbs or 20000lbs would the truck be capable of that or not. And since it has a pickup bed on it and is a NOT FOR HIRE truck I wont have to stop at weigh stations.

I don't think the DOT guys are going to buy that one. Not many folks take two boats with them on vacation. If you're out of state, they impound your rig for Federal DOT violation, overweight or not.

Is that why you never see any of the 1 ton trucks with the car haulers in the scales, what makes them exempt from stopping.

Thanks John

called and spoke with a kodiak dealer today and the kodiaks can haul a gross combined of 26000 and the truck alone weighs 10000lbs so what the heck is the point of having one lol. My dodge 3500 crew cab duallie diesel can haul 16500 lbs and it was cheaper lol.

Thanks John

Washington State all trucks registered with a GVW of 16,000 and over must stop at the scales. Since I own an orchard I can haul my fruit within a 125 mile radious of my property with out a CDL. So excemptions do exist for certain vehicles, but since both states have it as a misdemeanor charge better be safe over sorry........

In California:

California Vehicle Code Section 2813 outlines who must stop at weigh stations and inspection stations:

2813. Every driver of a commercial vehicle shall stop and submit the vehicle to an inspection of the size, weight, equipment, and smoke emissions of the vehicle at any location where members of the California Highway Patrol are conducting tests and inspections of commercial vehicles and when signs are displayed requiring the stop. Every driver who fails or refuses to stop and submit the vehicle to an inspection when signs are displayed requiring that stop is guilty of a misdemeanor.

California Vehicle Code Section 260 defines "commercial vehicle" (bolding and underlining added):

260. (a) A "commercial vehicle" is a motor vehicle of a type required to be registered under this code used or maintained for the transportation of persons for hire, compensation, or profit or designed, used, or maintained primarily for the transportation of property.
(b) Passenger vehicles which are not used for the transportation of persons for hire, compensation, or profit and housecars are not commercial vehicles. ...
(c) Any vanpool vehicle is not a commercial vehicle.
(d) ...
So if your hauling boats moving your inventory around or delivering them to customers you are supposed to stop it may or not be enforced. I had an empty small Penske 20' cube van that you rent for houshold moves that was stopped while empty for bi-passing scales. Most times the 1 tons might be viewed as "housecars" and not stopped but all it takes is the one guy to enforce what they believe is the rules.......

You can haul 16,500 behind a dually. I WOULD NOT.

The 4500 will give you a LOT more security and bigger brakes.
