Questions on a 2006 GMC and Dodge
Hi All-
I am looking at a new truck and have narrowed the search down to two trucks.
1) 2006 Dodge Ram crew cab with 5.9L Cummins
2) 2006 GMC crew cab with the duramax
What are the pro's and con's of each.
I am still haven't fiqured out if I want a 4X4 or a 4X2. How much difference in gas mileage is there between the 4X4 and 4X2.
The truck will be a daily driver and will always be on road so I don't need the 4x4 for offroad. The only time I would need a 4X4 would be a the boat ramp 3 or 4 times a year.
Thanks
Don

The Dodge comes in the MegaCab (+++) and the GM is the old body style in 06/ new body in 07.
Duramax/Allison are an unbeatable combination. I have an 84K mile 03 GMC that has had batteries/tires so far. THe brakes are still original!

I have the 06 GMC, difference in fuel mileage is about .5 or less mpg between 4x4 and 2x4, the front axles and drive shaft do not turn in 2 high so the only added drag is the weight.
If your getting a truck this heavy you should consider 4x4 as it is very useful n the ramp and soft ground.
The 06 GMC has an all new engine with 100% bosch fuel management, not to mention 360hp and 650torque. The dodge is ok, but much slower by comparison.
There is a big price difference, that's your call

Re: Questions on a 2006 GMC and Dodge
I test drove a new Chevy crew cab duramax and a Dodge megacab cummins last week.
Both were dually 4x4. The Chevy seemed to have more power at higher speed on the
highway but the Dodge had more a$$ around town. I decided to get the Dodge and ordered
a new 07. The interior space of the megacab Dodge blows the Chevy away.

Re: Questions on a 2006 GMC and Dodge
I would be glad to hook my 02 duramax to a dodge anyday. I have a transport company, and we have both. Yesterday we came from Dallas Texas back to Tennessee, and i had to run 65mph just to keep from running off and leaving the Dodge. When we got in today he went straight to the Chevrolet lot and is now trying to trade.

DEFINATELY get 4x4.
The one time you need it, and don't have it; its worth $1M bucks. Also, your resale value and market will be bigger with 4x4.
Can't go wrong with either truck. The Chevy has the most kick off the showroom floor. The Dodge has the most potential with a few thousand in bolt on mods (exhaust, chip, intake).
