Re: A Toyota Can Tow 10,000 Pounds?
My cousin is the Chicago area corporate Toyota Truck (product) Manager. They have sunk a LOT of money and development into this new stout truck. They are planning to have a full line of 1/2 - 3/4 - 1 Tons out in the next 3 years. I don't forsee trying to tow my AT with the truck, but I may have my hands on one for some real world testing and feedback.

Re: A Toyota Can Tow 10,000 Pounds?
Here's my delimma... I have a 1/2 ton Z71 Chevy truck. I love the ride. I also have a 10,000 pound Cigarette Bullet, and I am tired of asking my friend for his truck everytime I need to tow the boat. I have driven a 2500HD Chevy and I hate the ride!
I am looking to buy a truck that has the smooth ride of my Z71 and the towing capacity I need for my Bullet.
This new 1/2 ton Toyota looks promising, but can I (as an American) tow my Cigarette with a Toyota???
Any help/advise is appreciated!

Is it a heavy enough unit to not be thrown
around by that 10k load in turns, braking, etc.
.....I don't know about that one.
When they get a 3/4 ton model out,
I'd love to try one.

There is no issue with taking your boat on the trailer with you for the test drive. I've done it several times.
The older (2002-2003-ish) Sierra Denali pickups with the All Wheel Drive and All Wheel Steering were rated to tow 10,000 lbs. and they did ride pretty nice. The new ones are only rated for 8100 lbs.
Clay,
I gotta say, dude, you are in TX-the HEART of big-ass-truck country, get a big ass truck. There is NO such thing as too much truck. While, immediately swapping out the components of a new truck may not be appetizing to your wallet, you can get MUCH better (adjustable) shocks than come on a new GM. The 6.5" wide steel wheels are heavy and the factory tires are very heavy and stout as well. Going to an 8 or 9" wide aluminum wheel and quality (Bridgestone Revo or BFGoodrich All Terrain KO/Rugged Trail) E-rated tire can DRASTICALLY improve your ride. Also, you don't need all that air pressure in the tires when you are NOT towing.
The ride you like on your 1/2 ton is via a Coil Spring Rear Suspension. Coil springs are great for Impallas and towing jet skis. That's about it.

Look at it this way, it is Toyata's first time offering a FULL SIZE truck to compete against the big 3. At 380hp/401tq sounds very agressive for their first attempt. Every Toyata Ive had well over 200k miles. Always started and very rarely gave me any sh#t. I look forward to the competition. Jeff

No Jap $hit for me either.
I don't care if they come up with a 200MPH supercar that will also pull a 20K# boat.
Keep buying their stuff. Don't forget to sign your kids up for Japanese lessons- they'll need jobs when they grow up.
