New Duramax
Just stepped up to a 3500 srw Crew Cab Duramax and it is my first diesel. The old truck was a 01 2500hd w 8100 and I put over 120K on it and loved it but the 10mpg was tough. Was interested about the breakin period and what are some suggestions on mods to make. (ie exaust, Wheel size and any others). I know it aint a FORD so go easy on me!!

It seems a lot of guys will get an intake, exhaust, and chip (tuner) and be good to go. A combo like that typically increases HP and torque quite a bit...diesels have so much potential. It seems a lot of people go to the 22.5" semi wheels on their rigs too.

if it is new, some are thursty up to 3500 and sometines 6000 miles, then it settles to be to his maximum economy on fuel. As far as engines goes, you can check with electronic devices that opens up the computer chip in some way, like HYPERTECH, SUPERCHIP or even POWEREDGE. They all work almost the same way, I've had them all and poweredge is efficient, on HP and also fuel economy. They claim to add 100HP to 150 HP, can't remember the torque. I like these better than swapping mecanical parts.

I carry them all, but sell more Edge Juice/Attitude than others.....
It's a very good bang for the buck with a lot of safeguards to keep from hurting your truck. Power enhancements without safegards can be a dangerous thing.
Exhaust only if the EGT dictates- most are ok unless you run all 4- big power, heavy loads, high elevation, hi rpms.
A good drop in filter helps some- make sure it filters to the same micron level, K&N is notoriously weak here.
Intake systems empty your wallet a lot more and give you some gains but most peeps don't need them- just like spending money on their truck.

I was reading some test specs on a truck that they added an exhaust and intake to. Lost lots of torque in the low-end, and didn't gain enough power in the top end to justify the cost.
I've got an Edge Attitude/Juice in my 06 Chevy LBZ and the only other mod is a cut-off muffler. The Edge is great but one thing that hasn't been mentioned here is that the transmission can only hold an additional 75hp from stock. Level 3 on the Edge controller is more than that so if you installed something similar then you need to be careful.
