I have an 06' F-250 6.0L Diesel and absolutely love it. I was just telling my fiancee tonight how I could never go back to a gas motor. My best friend has the same truck a few years older with the V-10 and when we compare the two, they are completely different. Both are lifted with 35's and when it comes to towing there's no comparison. Mine is chipped with an exhaust and is a rocket ship.

Stock for stock the v-10 and diesel may have similar power ratings. But, 1000 dollars in upgrades to the diesel gets you a totally different animal. TONS more power than gas, with zero penalty in fuel mileage (unless your a heavy right foot). 8.5mpg can't be right on the D-max. I would go chevy all the way over the ford right now, unless you need the f-450.
The resale value of a diesel means your only floating the extra 6k, it doesn't end up costing you that in the end. Even if you keep the truck a really long time you get even more back compared to the gas trucks that loose all value at around 150k mile mark.
Do not buy a 5.4. For gas engines, Chevy wins hands down. 6.0l, or the 8.1 (is it still available??). I mean, look how many boats the 8.1 is in (of course its not a fair comparison) but how many 5.4l fords do you see powering boats?
Diesel > gas hands down in almost every aspect. New ones hardly smell, and are as quiet as gas engines also.

Thanks for everybody's input. I ordered a F250 V10 last week. I understand the diesel vs. gas benefits/trade-offs and I have a diesel 350 at the present time. The V10 with 4.10s will be fine for my needs. It's rare when you hear overwhelmingly positive feedback on an engine, practically 100% on the FTE site. Thanks again and I'll post a pic when I get it.

I tow 36 ft with an 05 6.0l PSD Ford, my last truck was a duramax. I can not imagine owning a gas engine. On paper the specs may look the close to same, but my truck lifted only loses about 1-2 mpg highway towing the boat. 14 mpg unloaded and about 12 loaded. Why is anyone that boats looking for pay back on fuel consumption? Youi want the power, then pay for it......just like we do with boating
to the D-max owner, don't even track tour MPG unitl you get to 10k and break it in. My D-max used to get 18 MPG towing a 3 sled alum trailer.
