I think Navistar must be trying to run Ford out of biz. or they got a deal with the oil companys. My first Ford PSD was a 96 and all stock got 17mpgs empty never pulled any heavy loads far so don't know towing numbers, 2 was a 2000 f350 4x4 duellie crew cab. Hypertech programmer, cold air intake and bed cover, everyday driving mix of hwy-city 20-21 mpg. When I got the Nortech I pulled the Sonic down 700-800 miles 13.5 the whole way running 75 mph, now the Nortech back 8 mph running 70 mph not so good but load was about 21000#. I now have a 01 Excursion on 35 inch tall 13.5 wide tires, 3.73 gears, edge evo and additude stacked, AFE stage 2 cold air Magnaflow 4 inch turbo back and get 19 overall. I havent pulled any thing heavy yet. and this is doing the math not the overhead computer. It seems to me atleast since the 6.0 has come out they are going backwards in the MPG dept. The HP has gone up but you can get a 7.3 to move with under $2k.
I would sell the 6.0 if you are just sick of it and buy an older 7.3 and put 5g's in the bank.

unfortunatly thats about right, myself and a co worker just got done transporting a formula 330ss from WI to the Sarasota area with our 08 450. truck has 4.88 gears and we averaged 5.5-5.9 towing it down, and 8.7-9.0 bringing the empty trailer back.....crappy milage for sure, but let me tell you how important it is to feel comfortable and in control while on the road. I have been delivering boats all over the country for at least the last 6 years with current up to date equipment and let me tell you, this truck is a frickin tank. it is so comfortable to drive its crazy. we towed 70mph all the way down, not a touch faster, and while while you certainly know that there is 12k behind you, the truck handles, steers, accelerates, tracks, and brakes leaps and bounds better than any f350 i have ever towed with. So if you can justify the milage for saftey and comfort go for it, if not the other trucks mentioned are very capable as well. my .02
oh and the nav system is way cool.

keep the truck you have Tom the new ones suck on fuel milage. the power difference is not that great and they have loaded up the motor with emissions crap and it is killing them just like it did to gas motors years ago. it is going to take a few years for them to get this chit figured out and get the milage back to where it should be

The new diesel fuel standard called for a 97% reduction in the amount of sulfer. This emissions reduction is supposed to give you 20-40% better fuel economy.
I have an 06 Dodge 3500 and went from 15.5 MPG to 17.1 MPG around town driving....

I also have lost MPG with the new gas. I have a 7.3 however. I am not sure that when I replace the truck I will not go with a gas truck again. When I purchased my truck that I drive now deisel was 1.10 a gallon, it is now 3.60 a gallon.
Take the purchase price of an additional 5K or so, increased insurance (slight), added cost of oil changes, FUEL AT 50 Cents a gallone MORE and so on and you will NEVER make your money back not even on resale. They do drive better however

What we need is for the Truckers to park their trucks until the Gov. does something with the price of fuel, it shouldn't take more than a week for the country to sceech to a hault and they lower cost.
I remember a few years ago 100's of truckers went into D.C. at night and just parked trucks all along the streets so people had no place to park for work in the morning, that helped for a little while.
