I currently have a 06 chevy duramax 4dr 4wd 2500hd w/LT3,bought it new in jan of 06,has 19,000 miles on it. I am considering buyig a 08 4dr ltz duramax, the dealer is offering me a pretty fair amt for trade in (30,000) and I think I can get them to go 31,000 on my trade. I qualify for the gm discount until jan1st when my employer changes names so I only have a few days to decide if I want to get a new truck. I"m pretty happy with my 06 overall but I do like the seats in the new 08's,me 06 has the 10 way power heated leather but they don't tilt back real far which is uncomfortable if your trying to sleep while someone else drives, the 08's do. There are other things I like about the new trucks but my real question here is has anyone switched from the 04 1/2 to mid 07 lbz to the new lmm 07/08 and newer new style chevy? Did you experience any loss of mileage or power from all the pollution control/emissions equipment on the new trucks vs your old truck? Any other qualified opinions or comments on the new ones,They looked butt azz ugly to me at first but I have gotten used to them.,thanks,Smitty

I wish I lived closer to you and it was spring. I'd give you the 33k that you'll get with a 31k trade in at 7% tax. Your truck is the exact truck I'm looking for.
btw.. 04 1/2 - 05 was LLY. LBZ was only 06/07 classic with the 6 speed trans.

Lots of info here: http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/index.php
MPG is definently affected, but how much probably depends more on who's driving.....

Very little difference in the powertrain from an 06 LBZ to the new style truck, my neighbour has the new one and I have the 06, similar mileage on both trucks. They drive very similar also.
I would not hesitate to make the switch.

He's giving you a good trade deal on your 2006 because they are actually selling for good dollars on used lots; since not everyone loves the new emissions blessed 2008 offerings.
Same thing happened with the 7.3L PSD when the 6.0L PSD came out with Ford. Unmolested strong 7.L PSDs are still highly sought after trucks.
Keep that in mind.

I got offered a 33.5K check for my '06 LBZ Crew a couple weeks ago by a dealer friend of mine. I'm not even looking to sell. He just knows I don't drive it much (turned 4600 miles today-I'll have had it 2 years the end of April), it's red, and I always order all the right stuff.
He said he could make a couple of his customers happy the next day if I'd bite.
I just don't want to start all over again. I keep making out real well as another buddy is a Chevy store manager. I put no cash in and financed 29K when I traded my 04.5 LLY...(which I also had ordered)
These non-diesel types keep trying to say buying a diesel takes 900,000 miles to pay you back for the additional up front $$
uhh...no they don't...
My friend and co-worker has a new one (LMM) and after we serviced it and did some appearance mods at my place a month or so ago, I took it for a good hard "thrashing"![Big Grin](/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I thought it was stronger than my LBZ. Though I run a heavy wheel/tire combo, which that unspung wieght hurts...especially getting rolling/roll-on.
I dunno...what do do ,if anything, either

pulling with the new duramax instead ofthe old version is much better. a 06 with let's say an hypertech programmer is similar to the new one without hypertech. We then tried the new duramax with a Superchip programmer, and a customer of mine said it was also a big improvement pulling his fifth wheel... I'm sure you can't go wrong! And have'nt heard about a worst fuel economy...

Trading it in this morning, the dealer is giving me 32,000$ trade,I could hardl;y pass it up because I bought the truck almost 2 years ago to the day,got the gm discount last time,a 3500$ rebate plus used a 1000$ retire certificate from my wifes grandfather who worked at gm so even with tax it was less then 10 g's to drive the truck 2 years. After the 1st of Jan trw takes over the delphi plant I'm moonlightighing at so I'm no longer going to get the gm employee discount,I might get the supplier discount but not sure of that so I'm pulling the trigger,Smitty
