here is the 40 chevy after painting it this week. paint scheme matches his fathers race car from around 1970 in upstate NY.

this is a legends car that we made street legal. yes we have had it out on the street and it is very quick.

Turned out great. So is there a circuit for him to race the car in? Like a dirt version of the Southern Ground Pounders? The Legends car is neat. It would be very difficult to get something like that made street legal around here.

Ive spent a TON of time tucking that exhaust system up as tight as I can possibly get it. Im plumbing the car right now, remote oil filter, oil cooler, coolant expansion tank, valve cover puke tank, rearend cooler. After that its wiring, rear brake calipers, plumb the clutch, hook up a couple of the basic gauges and its good for a light off and a trip around the block.

Great build.
Years ago had some of the same thoughts but was thinking more of the older stock cars when they were stripped showroom builds in the 50s 60s. I did want it to look stock and have al the power options and be able to drive it cross country in confort like a true GT car or hit the track. Have run it in some autocross SCCA events soon hope to go to some open track days at a road course.
Results so far http://www.grandmarq.net/vb/showthread.php?45195-Creamy
Have been thinking of a Howe front road race clip and working on a watts link set up for the rear.

there is a circuit for vintage dirt cars but they only run near here once or twice a year so it is mostly a show car and occasional fun romp. the legends car is street legal so long as your definition is pretty loose. it does have a legal tag and we have had it on the street with out any tickets so far. he is probably going to take it up to the Tail of the Dragon after the show this weekend.
sounds like you are getting close to hitting the road. get some video when you take it out. would like to see and hear it run.

On to plumbing. After much deliberation Ive decided Left to right. Firewall mounted valve cover puke can. Ive been assured simply having breathers mounted in the valve cover will not work. With the G's this car will produce oil would be forced out the breather and on to the headers. Next power steering pump resovior. Oil cooler (obviously) mounted in front of the rad its 15x9x3" and a firewall mounted coolant recovery tank with a vent at the base of the windshield. Still messing with the exhaust btw but it's getting close.

Plumbing pretty much done. The coolant recovery tank needs the bracket repositioned and my neighbor who does alum welding is away so it is on hold. Came up with that spot for the oil filter mount, went through a half dozen different location scenarios. Settled on that spot it's not too vulnerable to rocks and s hit and it's out of the way of even the most ambitious future brake cooling hose set ups. You can see the cowl induction air intake starting to take shape.

As you know I LOVE this project !!!! Have a few questions . How exactly did you mount the Chevelle , shell to tube chassis ? Is it welded on or bolted on ? Also I want to do the exact same thing but want to make the Body removable so I could swap out paint Schemes . I would do a # 3 Monte SS wrangler ( non -aero coupe) Maybe Gant # 33 .
Would I need a cup chassis or N/W for 1986 Monte Carlo ?
What can I pic up a road course Chassis for ?
Are you planning on driving this on the road ?
This work is right up my alley
