I know I'm not exactly impartial but you really should check out a year old CTS-V. It gives you the stealth approach(sort of) bUt lots of hp. They're very affordable, fast, look good, and from what we've seen very reliable. There's a new version V coming for 09. Faster, much nicer to drive, not as low key.
If you are willing to spend a little more and wait, the 09 looks to be insane. I think it holds the record for sedans at the Nurburgring. It's a M3 killer I think.
I'm also VERY partial, but buy American.

i've had the bimmers and the benz's (3 and 5 series) and (e and s class) had a 96 vette, a 2000 vette, and an 02 vette. in july of last year i purchase a 1999 911/996 carrera...non S, non turbo (first year of water cooled). i've put just under 10k miles on this car since i've owned it and lemme tell you...i will never own another sports car BUT a Porsche. Everytime i get in it its like the first time...im over 20 years in the car biz. yes when/if they break there expensive, BUT isnt anything worth having ? A goof friend of mine trades his 911's every 4 years with 100k miles on them...he's on his 4th and he'll never own anything but...his wife drives a Cayenne S which is also a baaaaad vehicle. Just my .02 im currently shopping for an 02 996 as we speak and if i find a deal this lil beauty may be for sale...and for under $30k i cant think of a way to have more fun

the car handles better then anything i've ever driven, is more comfy on long hauls then a vette by a long shot AND cruising at 75-80 gets 28 mpg...and the insurance is cheaper then either of my vettes were. may not be as quick 0-60, but runs the 1/4 in 13.74 and i've been in the 160's with her

the srt8 is a bad ride for sure i was thinking along those lines like that or trailbalzer ss but i think i need a sports car must be my age catching up
If you wnt fast,I just bought a left over 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. 0-60 in 4.7 stock,AWD. It seats 5 ( a little tight) has all the bells and whistles. Is .5 sec faster than a Porsche Cayanne twin turbo at half the price. Wife just had a baby so I chose this to replace her 2 door Honda Accord.

I love my EVO MR
For 50k you could have a 10 second 150mph evo in the 1/4 mile with full interior
They are the biggest bang for the buck car.
You can rally them
Road track Them
Auto X them.
1/4 mile the car.
and still fit your golf clubs in the trunk along with 4 adults.
5 if you are a car full of asian's
