Default I am looking to buy a Diesal

I just sold my 02 Chevy 2500HD with the 8.1 and looking to move to a diesel. Mostly because of the gas mileage when compared to the 8.1, any ways I am not partial to any brand just would like a dually one ton or bigger and to stay below $35k. I know there are a lot of opinions out there so lets hear them.

Oh boy, here we go.

I am a Ford man. You could get a good used 07 6.0 super duty for less than 35k. you could prob get the king ranch for that money. you could go with the 6.4 if you dont treat it like a semi tractor. Change the oil every 3-4k and ck for oil growth. after you update a 6.0 they are good powerplants. and if you are lucky you could possibly find a late 2003 7.3 diesel with low miles. the only problem is the front of the truck looks dated. i think the best looking trucks ford has made are the 05-07 trucks. but no matter, the front clip from a 05-07 will bolt on the older models. (i think back to 99)

and you will hear from catmando here soon....

If you like going 80 mph on the highway and over 15mpg get a older 7.3 power stroke and put 15k in the bank or do some custom stuff to make it yours. The 6.0 is junk, the 6.4 is nice but you will never get over 10 mpg the 6.7 is way out of your price range but it's bad a$$ and gets great mpg. The Chevy, never liked them and I feel safer pulling a big load in a Ford. The Dodge's are nice but feel like a truck and don't like to run at higher speeds, plus Cat likes them.

I also like Nor-Techs so does that make you want to sell yours?

I love the fords and have owned quite a few but my last go round with the 6.4 in the 08 was it for me for awhile....have a 2010 3500 4x4 dodge and getting 14.5mpg non-towing and 11mpg towing my boat and 10 towing my 31' hitch pull toy hauler(gross out at 21,500#)...4 to 5mpg better than the ford and it was a 2500 4x4

I may be selling my 2000 Ford Excursion Limited with a 7.3 in it. Runs perfect. Nothing but AMSOIL synthetics in it since 5000 miles. Let me know if interested.

I would suggest;

1. Dodge Cummins 5.9
Pro;
A. least maintenance
B. good fuel mileage
C. 500,000 miles before major rebuild
D. Easy to build power but needs twin turbos for 500hp
E. 40% fewer moving parts than V8 diesels
Con;
A. Weak turbo housing(Holset)
B. Truck tends to 'wander'
C. Frame not as strong as Ford's frame
D. Loud motor but the Cummins "growl" is awesome!

2. Duramax
Pro;
A. Good fuel mileage
B. VERY quiet motor
Con;
A. Weakest connecting rods
B. Nice truck but the IFS sucks

3. Powerstroke 7.3
Pro;
A. Good power
B. Reliable engine
C. Best truck
Con;
A. The turbo tends to fail somewhere around 200,000 miles. Garrett Turbo has the fix.

Are you looking for another NT or what? I saw a 2002 50V for a good price in Classifieds. But then you'd need a huge truck...

I think they should too.
