Default Car Fax

I recently purchased a 2008 Chevrolet 2500 Duramax with only 80,000 miles. The price was way below book value so I scooped it up before looking it over. After owning the truck for a couple of months now I have noticed a couple of things that should have thrown a couple of red flags at the dealership. I was wondering if any one could run the VIN to get the warranty and/or accident report in the truck.

No accidents but it has a big mileage discrepancy. Was at 80+ k several times then jumps to 50k.

Car Fax is car fax, is it worth the money, IDK. Just like a home inspection, not that those guys know what they are doing but it is a peace of mind and another look at something. Another thing with Car fax is there seems to be discrpencies, if the accident was never reported to the police likely it will not show up on the report and body work these days is pretty good where on a 5 year old vehicle you would never know. Second I do not know how its inputed, if car fax is pulling from manual data I could see where a 5 was accidentally entered instead of 8 during a repair or service record. I would take it for whats it worth and not loose sleep over it.

It is against the law for the dealer to "knowingly" sell a vehicle with a mileage discrepancy and not disclose it. If they fill out the mileage affidavit as "unkown" then they are off the hook. If not then you may be able to get your money back. The rub is what did they "know".

carfax is nothing put computers talking to each other. Mileage getting inputed wrong for a service, or inspection happens all the time.

Carfax is a JOKE.

If someone does not report, pays cash out of pocket, fixes themself, has a friend fix, does not make a insurance claim, etc.

My mom had a rock bounce up and scratch the hood and crack the windshield. Went to trade her Liberty in a year later and the dealer low balls due to CARFAX! Report shows that her Jeep was in a FRONT END COLLISION! WTF??

The gauge clusters on those trucks go out regularly and commonly.

Someone probably swapped it out for a new one, or a used one with low mileage.

True mileage should be reflected in the ECM.
