I tow a 31 Sonic on a aluminum Manning with an 02 GMC 8.1 and Allison. No complaints, just buy lots of gas.

I have a 2002 8.1 Allison chevy dually crew. I don't own a diesel by choice .I try not to get near the diesel pumps ,where the cat litter and sludge is on the ground .One drop of diesel fuel on you and you can't scrub it off .Wife doesn't like the smell and and neither do I . My truck has 240,000 miles ,running strong and ez to fuel up ,anywhere . I do wish someone still made a supercharger for the 8.1

I liked my 7.3, I love my 6.4. I've towed a total of about 16 miles the last two summers combined. Sure as hell don't need a diesel, much less a dually, but I love this tuned 6.4..... I fill up at the diesel pump all the time in a shirt and tie with no ill effects. My wife doesn't like the smell either - I don't think she needs 50 pairs of shoes - "tough ****" is a two way conversation! Drive it to work every day. I just think these modern diesels are so refined I don't want to bother with a gas truck!! (Devils advocate!!!)

I'll be back down solo for the Shootout, but not bringing the boat. For the most part, I'll be riding in my friends 36 Apache.
I'm usually down about 5 times a Summer and almost always the same weeks and weekends every year.

I just bought an 8.1L/Allison truck for local errands, towing, and a winter 4x4 truck. I drove it 631 miles home, and it will turn 200K miles when I leave the driveway next.
I am still keeping my 7.3L PSD dually for long towing/trips.
