I run many types and brands of off-road heavy equipment and its hard to beat a cummins. I have owned both dodge and ford diesel pick-ups putting many miles of on and off-road abuse on them. Very hard to beat the dodge 6.7 now that they have the auto trans issues fixed. I still own my dodge 2004 3/4 ton 4x4 with the manual 6 speed work truck and prolly will till its a rust bucket LOL...other than the dash cracking last year (that's normal unfortunately) the interior has held up great... one seat cushion on the drivers seat due to the constant in and out all day I do at the mine. 13mpg in the pit/mine and 15-17 on the hwy with 35x12 off road tires. I owned a 2010 3500 DRW 4x4 dodge. night and day difference interior wise from the 04 and that's a big thumbs up to dodge on that! That truck got 11-12 towing my 32' sunsation at 65-70 and 15-17 mpg not towing depending on how heavy my foot was...had the diff bearings in the front end replace 3 times also had the ball joint problem twice so it had to let it go with only 63k on it. Traded it in on a 2013 3500 4x4 DRW ford. hate the DEF but that's our governments Fault!!!! MPG is worse; 10-12 tops towing (have seen it drop to 9 at times) and 14 to 16 not towing.( driving 70-80 on the interstate) I love the looks and the interior of the ford. It is hands down the best in those departments IMO but the towing and braking/trans braking are not even close to what the 2010 dodge had. can't speak for the duramax / Allison but I just didn't like the interior on them when I looked at them before I got the ford this go round.

Starting in 2003 dodge has made continious improvements to their transmissions. Even duramax truck pullers swap out to an upgraded chrysler trans at times.
Honestly the Allison behind the duramax is not bulletproof and many have had issues behind stock engines. Every truck has problems and I personally believe the dodge trans problems are blown out of proportion and the Allison transmission love is also blown out of proportion.
The 2010+ Rams are BEAUTIFUL and very capable trucks! The transmissions are just as reliable as the Ford or Chevy trucks. I feel confident in my personal expierence and research that you will be happy owning a Cummins ram.
Good luck on your search!

I believe only the 3500/4500/5500 chassis cabs came with the aisin brand transmission standard. Starting in 2014 you could order the Chrysler 68rfe or the aisin in the 3500 pickups. The Chrysler 68rfe has proved reliable since its introduction in 2007. My modded 2008 DRW could not break it hauling heavy or doing donuts!

Dan, I've got a 2010 with the automatic and we regularly gross 40,000 to 45,000 gross with a 40' gooseneck. I'm at 130,000 on the odometer and the only problem I've had is u joints about every 15,000 miles and the pinion bearings need replacing right now. Rear tires are only good for about 15,000 miles We carry these loads up into the hills in West Virginia weekly. I'm not saying it hasn't taken a toll on the truck overall because it has but so far it's always come home under its own power. I've had a few loads of lumber on it when I grossed 55,000 to 57,500. It has a Smarty programmer on it and air bags with a leveling valve as well.

I test drove the 6.7 Cummins, 2013 model year. It was much more quiet than the old 5.9 Cummins and the truck rode nice. However, it definitely feels "choked" and the feel does not match the power numbers. It feels rather sluggish. From reading up on it, you really need to tune in to wake it up. My 2008 Duramax feels way more powerful even tho the numbers say different. I also learned thru research that the 2010 model year had issues with the emissions sensors and equipment. But that being said, all 3 brands are great trucks and all of them will pull a house.

After owning a 6.0, having friends with 6.0s, and working on several 6.0s, I would not take a 6.0 for free with a spare engine in the bed. Absolute junk. How did 6.0s even get in the discussion?
