Aluminum and Ford corrosion issues?
Seeing how Ford is struggling with corrosion issues on their aluminum hoods on Mustangs and Explorers how are their aluminum body pickups going to fair?
For those of you that don't know about the issue. The aluminum hoods have corrosion bubbles popping up around the edges of the panel. Ford covers this for 3/36K but the issue usually pops up in the 4-5th year of ownership to which Ford argues since it is not perforated (swiss cheese hole) then it isn't an issue they cover.
With aluminum body pickups this is probably going to become an issue faster due to the rougher use conditions those trucks will encounter.

Ford has been using aluminum body panels for years for over 10 years, specifically on the Lincoln line they have been using hoods and trunks. I have not seen this issue in the past; but perhaps the new alloys are causing the problem. Any more insight or pictures? I have been eyeballing 2017 Fords, and this may be another sway away from them (for me).

The TSB goes on to say that "testing has revealed that the aluminum corrosion was caused by iron particles working their way into the aluminum body part, prior to it being painted."

I have a 2013 Explorer with rust bubbles.....never been hit, no snow/salt/bought it new. My buddy of 30+ years is a Ford service writer and he said they all do it and his personal Mustang has the same issue. So the repeat in 5 years isn't possible....repeat in 3.
Sure glad it has the 3 stage pearl paint they offered in the Limited trim!
