Guys,

So is there anything wrong with “bolting on” the coupler I already have? I’m a pretty handy guy, with plenty of “resources”. I’m confident I can come up with a way of positively locking it into place. Unless there’s a good reason NOT to that isn’t apparent to me. I really like the hitch ball locking mechanism I’ve got, and I don't see a reason to go to the extra expense if I don’t have to. I’m all ears, though.

Thanks. Brad.

If you can make the current coupler not move back and forth by bolting it such that the actuator don’t move, you will be fine. I welded my coupler.

if you think about, the EOH will still work with the surge coupler, just that you will have this jerking back and forth still. Just do whatever you can to make it not surge on that existing coupler if it’s a matching unit that you like on your trailer. It should be fine.

MyIsland,

The jerking back and forth is EXACTLY why we are here.

I have a game plan in mind. We’ll see if it survives initial encounter with the project when I decide to move forward.

Thanks. Brad.

Guys,

So…. Dexter…. HydroStar….

The Dexter is more expensive. By not a negligible amount. I read good things about both. A little negative about the HydroStar, less so about the Dexter. Both seem to be suitable options.

What’s the consensus?

Thanks. Brad.

I been trying to make a piece of **** DEXTER unit work.
Doesnt work with 2021 Ram
Doesnt work with GMC
Works with a 2019 Ram
Works with any Ford.

I put in a $166 "adapter" still nothing .. you want a dexter I`ll sell you this piece of ****.. it`s new and if you have a Ford it`ll be great I`m sure. Then I can go buy a Hydrastar.

Dan,

Assuming “GMC” would mean it won’t work with a Chevy….? 😕

I’ll have to look into that.

Thanks. Brad.

I went with the Hydrostar plug and play no problems, accept the fuse under the hood for the brakes was missing.

HydraStar has been excellent for me. Sixth season now. Got the 1600psi plug and play kit for my triple axle with disc brakes on the first two axles. So much better and safer than surge brakes!

My Dexter worked with 2013 Yukon xl with after market controller and works with my 2023 Suburban factory controller.

Padraig,

That’s just weird…. GM is GM. Chevy is GMC. GMC is Chevy. I don’t get it.

Thanks. Brad.
