Default Procharger advice please

5.3 rebuild OR 383 crate engine (GM P/N 12497317)

I have a 2001 burb with a 5.3 engine. It has over 150,000 miles and I am planning on either rebuilding it with a 4340 crank, JE pistons and Oliver rods or use the 383 crate engine. I am gong to add a P1-SC Procharger. I plan on keeping the static compression between 9.3:1 and the original 9.5:1

I have had a good experience with Procharger in my boat. It is a 540 cubic inch Gen VI with a M-4 Intercooled carb engine. It is approximately 820 HP at 6 lbs of boost.

I would like to hear advice from anyone who has used a centrifugal supercharger on a 5.3 or has swapped to a crate engine.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Agressor, do the 383 it is much simpler.

I don't know if you have beefed up your tranny at all but the procharger set up would grenade the stock GM tranny.

If you pull your boat w/the burb the procharger heats up the pistons too much.

You need to freshen/beef up your trans,i assume from the fact its a 5.3 that its a 1/2 ton. The 4l65e 5 pinion planets will retro into your trans, their is a shopping list of other mods i would reccomend (beast sun shell,29 element borg warner input sprag, steel boost valve in pump,transgo/transco sk jr,hd seperator plate etc). It won't be cheap to get it done that way but i have one i did for a guys 99 suburban w/supercharger and he has had no failures yet. A local shop near you should be able to do all the needed modifications if they are honest and you insist upon it,Smitty
If you leave the trans stock and scatter it,you will have needlesly wasted money in hard parts you would normally be able to re-use.

Thanks Artic Friends. If you have a complete list of the P/Ns that you did for the 99 I would greatly appreciate it.
