The 322, 700-NXT
Here is the deal…. Running mid 80’s now. One more prop (4 week lead time through Merc!!!) and everything should be set. They have had no test props. Each one has had to be cut. I have been very impressed with the maneuverability for a single that length. You will not find a roomier and better cockpit design in any boat under 35 feet. The Poker Run cockpit, with 4 high back bolsters, easily stands 6, 3X3. In my opinion, this is the sportiest raised deck, Velocity has built. I have had die hard Fountain and Donzi guys crawling all over the boat in amazement. Workmanship and paint design is top notch, and believe me, I am particular. If anyone is considering a 32, you can not go wrong with this layout, regardless of the power you put in it. It is definitely a step forward in design.

Sounds good! I know you have a lot more power in this one, but how does the ride compare between the 290 and 322? I'll be interested to hear what the final top speed ends up being with the new prop too.

The 322 ride and hull is different from the 290. Much better! It is sharper and taller,and longer in the front half, so it is awsome in big water. This setup needs a prop that lifts the bow, otherwise it will tend to bow steer. In the beginning Merc was only making 16 degree rake cleavers. They are now making 18 degree rake cleavers, which is a world of difference with regard to bow lift and handling.

Oh Deere, How is it getting on plane, and what are the Numbers on the wheel? My brother has a single engine 320 and we are curious on the differences between the 322 and the 320.

Right now I am running a 30" pitch, 17" diameter, 16 degree rake cleaver. With this prop it has no problem getting on plane, however it does have the typical blowout just as it comes on plane. When I ran a 30" pitch, 18" diameter, 18 degree rake prop, the boat really struggled getting on plane, but handled great once on plane. I am going to a 29", 17.5", 18 degree next.

Wow--those are serious props! (and it sounds like you are kind of a pioneer in this size single) I see you have Smartcraft. What is your cruising fuel mileage with the boat? I would think it's a lot better than twins...
