Welcome Chris ... you'll love the boat. I have a 2000 Velocity 280 with a Whipplecharged 502 Mag. Unless something has changed your boat probably came from the factory with a 26 Hydromotive and will give you 70ish in perfect conditions. The Hydromotive was OK with the stock motor but a larger blade with the Whipple was useless. It broke lose way too easily. I now run a Bravo 1 30" on mine and it works great. Hopefully you have someone in your area who will allow you to try a few props before you buy.

Good luck and enjoy ...

We have 7 Velocity's in our area. All but one uses a Bravo. All have sold the Hydromotives after a good testing with the Braovo's. The guy who did not use it just sold his boat to move up to a 36 footer. I did the rpm's at each 1000 on a GPS last year but did not keep the results. I do know that at 3500 rpm that the Bravo 1 was 4-5 mph faster on GPS. The Bravo accelerated much quicker with was important to me. The I could not get the Hydromotive to hook up well coming out of the hole. Especially if I had a few extra people. I could get 1 mph better on the Hydomotive but I really had to hang it out to get that. Most time I do not run that long wide open. I did try a labbed Hydromotive once and it did Ok but after I had my Bravo labbed i was real happy with it.

Wiltery - What Rpm are you spining the 30? The past 2 years I had a 572 that would spin a 28 5400 and would show 85 mph. I just put in a 510 with a 420 blower and fired it up last night. I will see what it will do with the 28 today. The others in this area with my engine set up went to 1.36 gears. We have 2 26 Velocity's in my area with this same engine setup seeing 101 and 103 mph. I dont think the 28 will see those numbers.

I have the 260 the hydro sucked because as listed above it had trouble getting one plane and blew out on turns if drive was trimed up. I just got a labbed bravo from Scott McCormik at velocity special dialed for the velocity hull. He will sell to velocity owners at cost, cost me $500.00 I will get you a picture its pretty sweet. I would just call the factory and talk to scott he can give you the details. Also new velocity owners get a discount on clothing stuff, my girlfriend always makes sure she gets it when ordering stuff from them. Congrats on the boat looks good, I wish I had your engine you should be able to come close to 75mph with that boat.

Default 2001 Velocity 280

I spoke with Scott at Velocity . I'm going to stop throuh there when I go back to pick the boat up in a couple of weeks. He says the Bravo 4 Blade Right hand Lab finished 28 is the ideal all around prop . Out of the hole , mid range and top end. At around $505 with 5 days notice.

Linster: I spend very little time wide open. Early last spring, clean bottom, cool day, light chop, 3 riders, and almost full tank saw 85MPH GPS at 5200rpm. I do have the optional throttle body from Whipple.

Default Sweet Velocity

Chris,

Great Boat, can't wait till you get it on the water. I want to be part of the maiden voyage. I have a line on a pair 550hp's for my boat, call me and I will explain later.

Apache's and Velocity's Rock!

I've got a 22' Velocity so the comparison may not transfer directly to your longer boats, but I saw a great improvement with my Hydromotive 26" when I had Hydromotive add the diffuser ring at the same time they labbed the prop. The hole shot was much stronger and the midrange efficiency also improved. The diffuser ring modification has also been written about before in Powerboat Magazine. It's a pretty inexpensive modification that is easily reversible if you don't like it. All you have to do is grind off four spot welds inside the hub to remove the diffuser ring. I really like having the better acceleration. I don't know if it knocked off any top end.

I've picked up a couple Bravo 1 26" props this winter (one labbed) to try next summer. From other's experience with the Bravo 1 props, it should be an interesting comparison!
