Default 1990 22' Velocity hook removal

For those of you that have had one of these I was just curious as to whether or not removing the hook on hte lower strakes is worth it. This is a friends boat and just trying to get a little more out of it. Is the handling going to get worse? I do fiberglass work and I've done it on other boats but not one this small so not sure if its worth it or just cause problems. Currently running a 350 Mag, Alpha 1 drive and 27 pitch 3 blade prop at 5200 RPM's in the mid 60's. Thanks
