Just buy a new 390 Poker Run modeland your are covered.
Seriously, I am not sure but as I had an 89 Regal Velocity it was before that. I am guessing that the dividing line is some where around 1987.

Dyno, I have an 85 22' Velocity, I am pretty sure it was the last year Steve Stepp built it . Last night at Blarneys Island near Antioch,Il there was a 22' Regal Velocity with a 225 Yamaha, what a piece of crap this boat was. There is no comparison to a Steve Stepp model. The few years Regal produced them, the quality was not there.Thank God Steve got back his molds and continues to build a quality boat. Frank

Steve never quit making boats they where just called Thoroughbred while reagal had the name. Its pretty easy to tell if its a Stepp or a Regal. If its not a 22,26, or a 30 you can be pretty sure it was built by regal. Just remeber that the 26 is now called a 280 and the 30 is 320. That and Stepp Velocitys and Thouroughbred look prety much exactly the same.
You've got good taste.

Steve Stepp did stop making boats under his own name. He actualy worked for Regal for a short time. The Thorughbreds were manufactured after he left Regal and before he got ownership of the Velocity name back.

I had an 86 22' O/B, that had Regal on it, but it was all Velocity!....the same as the earlier 22's...
Regal produced a 23 that was called a Velocity but was more of a cuddy....
Really miss it now...

It would be interesting if Steve Step could comment on this thread. I had a 1988 Regal Velocity 230(ordered in Oct of 1997) and spent quite a bit of time talking to Steve before buying the boat. (Sea Ray Pachanga lost out). It was without a doubt one of the best boats I've ever had. Great room, versatility, freeboard, and performance considering the size. I believe that Step joined with Regal towards the end of 1986 and terminated his relationship with Regal around 1990 (or whenever the first Thoroughbreds came out). Regal had some good cockpit design ideas and had the ability to mass produce but their quality left room for improvement.

Re: what years did Regal build Velocity's
I just picked up an 87 22 foot. As far as I know it is one of Stepp's boats, but titled as a Regal! Velocity would be able to give you more info on what years are what!! Talk to Kenny at the factory!

Don't know the exact years but I do know that the 22 and the 30 molds went to Regal when Steve stopped building them. Regal tried their hand with the 23 footer which was a nice boat but far from a Velocity. If you find a 22 or a 30 that was built by Regal I'm fairly sure it's from the original Steve Stepp mold. When Steve started building boats again the new model was the Thorougbred 26 Summer Squall. I owned a 96 26' and the badging was Thoroghbred/Velocity soon after 96 they went back to Velocity. You can call the factory and talk to Steve himself if you catch him at the right time (early AM)
